A record was set at the Houston Auto Show when two personalized license plates sold at the MyPlates auction for big bucks.

Tony Gullo — who took home "ROCKETS" for $16,050, "TEXAN5" for $4,250, "INDY CAR" for $2,750 and "MAYBACH" for $1,750 — told Your Houston News, "We're going to keep these plates in our family forever. We have a big family, the children, the grandchildren, and even the great grandchildren will have these to enjoy."

Car dealer Chris Gillman of Gillman Automotive Group brought the bid to $25,000 for the highly sought-after "HOUSTON" plate. This breaks the previous license plate record for "FERRARI," which went for $15,000 at auction in Jan. 2011.

"I was born and raised here in the City of Houston for 35 years," Gillman told KHOU Ch. 11 News. "I'm a sixth generation Texan . . . my family and I've been doing business here in Houston now since 1938, and this is a pretty special moment for me in my life."

Gillman will have the plate for 10 years and gets first dibs on renewing his claim on the message — which means that it could be his forever.

Proceeds from the auction items went to the State's general revenue fund and selected charities.
