The NY Times notes that the city is moving beyond its oil and gas and big business clout and "making a bid to be the state's cultural and culinary capital." It points specifically to the Houston Museum District and the burgeoning dining scene as drivers of that change.
Among the attractions on the "don't miss" list are the Rothko Chapel, the Museum of African American Culture, the Asia Society Texas Center and the Houston Museum of Natural Science's new paleo hall.
Also meriting mention were three of the city's most-talked-about restaurants of 2012, Oxheart, Underbelly and Uchi, which have gained recognition on the national scene.
