President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are headed to Texas for two important events. They will appear at the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas Thursday and then fly to Waco for a service commemorating victims of last week's fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas.

The memorial service will take place at Baylor University.

The Obamas are expected to join former presidents George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and their spouses at the new presidential library on the Southern Methodist University campus. It is the third presidential library in Texas (the others are dedicated to Lyndon Baines Johnson in Austin and George H.W. Bush in College Station).

The president and first lady attended a memorial service in Boston last week for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Houston Chronicle reports Obama first discussed the West tragedy with Texas Gov. Rick Perry while en route to the Boston service.

At least 14 people were killed when a fertilizer plant fire led to a massive explosion. Hundreds of people lost their homes in the blast.

Perry toured the disaster zone in West on Friday and met with local officials and state and local emergency responders about relief and recovery efforts underway.

"No doubt, there is a lot of work that lies ahead and the road to recovery is long," Perry said. "But this community will come together, this community will mourn and this community will rebuild."
