Looks like Barbara Bush will be spending her wedding anniversary at home.
After spending six days at Houston Methodist Hospital for treatment of pneumonia, the former first lady was discharged Saturday and returned to her Post Oak-area residence.
"I cannot thank the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist enough for making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible," Bush said in a statement released by spokesman Jim McGrath.
McGrath also tweeted a photo of Bush's two dogs eagerly awaiting her arrival.
Bush and her husband, former president George H.W. Bush, will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday. The couple were married in Rye, N.Y., on Jan. 6, 1945, when George H.W. Bush was home on leave from the Navy during World War II.
During her hospital stay, the 88-year-old former first lady received best wishes from President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, as well as a tweet from former president Bill Clinton. George H.W. Bush, also tweeted his thanks.
I'll be rooting for Barbara Bush's full recovery while she's rooting for Baylor today. All my best to her and @GeorgeHWBush.— Bill Clinton (@billclinton) January 1, 2014
It was only the third tweet from the former president, 89, who created a Twitter account last month.
