Hip hop legend teams up with the Houston Symphony: Most unlikely pair

Houston hip hop legend Bun B is teaming up with the Houston Symphony for a rare collaboration at Jones Hall.

The unlikely pairing will take center stage Nov. 14  at the Anti-Defamation League's Houston in Concert Against Hate, a one-night event honoring area civil rights leaders and prominent education reformers.

Following the announcement at Tony's restaurant, CultureMap spoke with Bun about his upcoming symphonic debut.

"It's about carrying the message of the ADL," the rapper explained, adding that he's penned original lyrics for the performance to celebrate the organization's century-long battle against intolerance. "I look at it as an opportunity for hip hop culture to join in that fight."

He said he's excited for a chance to show that hip hop — a scene long accused of promoting violence — stands firm against hate.
