"Are you flat busted? Then head to Soundwaves where we buy your old CDs for cash!” That was the cheesy old commercial for our favorite CD shop. Much more streamlined these days and less of a discount record store, it now has more of a California cool music and surf shop vibe with everything from vinyl, posters, CDs and of course flip-flops, board shorts, surf boards and bikinis. Soundwaves has everything for skaters and/or surfer dudes and dudettes, but the real treasure is their collection of music that includes the only Houston Rap section anywhere that pays homage to DJ Screw, Lil Flip, Boss Hogg outlaws, the S.U.C. and many more. If you want a taste of Houston, stop by Soundwaves and pick up a few screw tapes or search around for those harder to find local rock records.
