Sabine to Bagby Promenade
|
This 23-acre park along Buffalo Bayou has canoe launches, bike trails, public artwork and a bridge that allows pedestrians to walk a complete loop around the bayou without crossing any busy streets. There is a unique intuitive lighting system that brightens the bridges, trails and water of the park with a blue-to-white color scheme that changes in tandem with the phases of the moon. These cool lighting treatments illuminate Buffalo Bayou as the spine of the city and the Sabine Promenade as a destination not only for nature, but mega-watt outdoor events such as the City Soundscapes performance series, outdoor light and sound shows with an enormous projection screen and cutting edge music. With 12 street-to-bayou access points, it’s easy to enter this park with paths that link the Allen Parkway/Memorial Drive bayou trails to Sesquicentennial Park behind Wortham Center and the Northside Trail at the University of Houston-Downtown. It’s urban chic gone green.
