Rice Gallery

As a nationally-recognized contemporary art space, Rice Gallery, located on the campus of Rice University, is the only university museum in the United States devoted to site-specific installation art. Five times a year, Rice Gallery invites artists to create new installations and underwrites the entire process. The result is that rather than creating art and bringing it to the gallery for exhibition, the large-scale works are formed and assembled right there as the artists’ visions and the space itself develop a symbiotic relationship. Since 1995, Rice Gallery has commissioned more than 40 installations and assisted both emerging and established artists in taking their work to the next level, from pictures in grass mounted on the walls by Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey to Kirsten Hassenfeld's mysterious and romantic oversized chandelier-like creations.
