Polo's Signature
|
One thing for sure about owner /chef Polo Becerra’s namesake restaurant: It's a great place for people-watching. On several occasions we've spotted Yao Ming dining with his wife. We've seen immigration lawyer and former Houston council member Cordan Quan there, too. Polo’s seems to hit the right note with wealthy Asians, many of whom dine and host their parties here. Becerra calls his cuisine " modern French-American," but we’ve witnessed a touch of Italian and even Mexican. The eclectic menu includes smoked gouda-and-mushroom quesadillas, Italian braised short rib ravioli with crispy pancetta and charred leeks, and pan-seared Tuscan Airline chicken stuffed with fontina cheese, basil and prosciutto ham. We like this new world order.
Becerra started out as a line cook at Post Oak Grill, and now he owns it. In 2002, he bought the restaurant from Manfred Jachmich, who operates So Vino on Montrose.
