Ouisie's Table
|
Ouisie's Table combines the best of two divergent Southern traditions: the genteel manners (and manors), and the delicious, get-your-fingers-dirty down-home cuisine. Southern comfort food with eclectic tendencies reigns supreme in a chic house that sports countrified touches like a screened-in porch and herb garden. The chicken fried steak is legendary, as is proprietress Eloise Adams Jones, but most of the entrees combine down-home with trés-haute. For example: shrimp and cheese grits, herb-crusted halibut with cherry tomato sauce, three-cheese macaroni and cheese, and sauteéd quail on toasted brioche with bourbon.
There’s often a piano player, so unless you like shouting over show tunes we suggest that you make reservations—getting a table too close to him can be a real conversation-killer.
