The Magnolia Hotel is housed in a grand building listed on the National Register of Historic Places — you’re imagining antique furniture and chintz curtains, right? — and yet everything about its interior is pure 21st-century chic. It makes sense that in a city which owes much of its wealth and fame to oil that one of Houston’s finest boutique hotels is housed in the original corporate headquarters for Shell Oil Company. The hotel’s location puts all of downtown within walking distance (or a short ride away in the Magnolia’s Town Car service), and the bar is among the best in town.
