Daily Review Cafe
|
Long before patio dining became the norm at Houston restaurants, droves of diners clamored for a table overlooking the verdant gardens at Daily Review Café. The hustle and bustle of city life seem distant, even though downtown is minutes away. A haven for Southern comfort food, Daily Review Café built its name on fresh salads, soups and chicken potpies, heaping with fennel and carrots. The menu has expanded to include other Southern favorites. Among them, some of the best homemade fried chicken in town, teamed with garlic mashed potatoes and black pepper-spiked gravy. The cafe also features an extensive low-carb menu that allows customers to mix and match a grilled meat with their choice of two vegetables.
Shade chef-owner Claire Smith opened Daily Review Café in 1994. When Smith left Houston briefly for Chicago, she sold it to her general manager, Janice Beeson.
