Char Bar

What an unusual combination: Char Bar offers stiff drinks alongside custom suits. The historic Market Square building houses the Duke of Hollywood Tailors and a full-service bar. Drenched in nostalgia, Char Bar seems proud of its history and ghosts. With old photos on the wall -- there's been a clothing-related store on the premises since the 1930s -- and a tailor counter that is shared with the bar, Char Bar is the place to go wrestle old skeletons in your closet or catch up with an old friend. It's usually populated by a young professional crowd from nearby downtown offices who want to unwind after work with a martini or three. The house specialty Tuxedo martini is made with chocolate.
Strike up a conversation with gregarious Weldon Renfro, who has a permanent booth at the entrance and will shine your shoes for $6 and boots $7. He's never met a stranger.
