Brown Auditorium Theater
|
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston has included film exhibitions as part of its artistic repertory since 1939. The Brown Auditorium was designed in 1974 by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and updated in 2000. The theater screens both classic and contemporary films as well as world cinema and documentaries. Series and festivals are too numerous to mention, but popular programs include the "Movies Houstonians Love" series, which invites notable locals to screen their favorites, and the Latin Wave program, which brings in new films from all over Latin America.
The MFAH offers special deals for members of its movie club, Film Buffs. Perks include passes to sneak previews of new commercial film releases, a year of complimentary admission to the museum’s film screenings and invitations to social events and programs with visiting filmmakers and members of the film community like Stockard Channing, Peter Fonda, Richard Linklater, John Sayles and Wes Anderson.
