The crème brûlée bread pudding here has been heralded by both foodie experts (making Food & Wine magazine's 2008 list of best restaurant dishes) and everyday folk (winning the 2010 Houston Rodeo's Best Bites competition). We love chocolate as much as anyone, but there's something special about the Granny apple bread pudding at Mockingbird Bistro. Thick but gooey, it litereally melts in your mouth, served with cinnamon ice cream and a smidge of caramel sauce for maximum throwback-to-childhood appeal.
Just when you think this town can't handle another white chocolate bread pudding, in steps Danton's Gulf Coast Seafood with their melt-in-your-mouth version — on the Sunday blues brunch menu, perfect for your morning sugar cravings.
It seems wrong to enjoy such a stereotypically Southern dessert in a British pub, but not wrong enough for us to turn down this bread pudding. It's the perfect finish for one of the Black Lab's popular Brit dishes like shepherd's pie and fish and chips.

Houston grande dame Brennan's Creole bread pudding soufflé is almost as famous as the popular eatery's turtle soup and bananas foster, and just as can't-miss.
If butterscotch is to Canadian women what chocolate is to American ones (as How I Met Your Mother tells us), we know where to find some lovely Canucks — at British pub Red Lion with a bowl of the rich butterscotch bread pudding.
