Cali Sandwich is truly an off-the-radar banh mi destination with its sometimes overcrowded, small dining room, rude-ish service and decent parking. But that's exactly what makes it so special. Probably as close as you'll ever get to experiencing Vietnam in person, Cali Sandwich is the real deal. The waitstaff is curt but efficient, the banh mi are perfect and the other dishes are all very good. While the tables are super close together, it gives a real sense of authenticity, as does that first bite of Bo Luc Lac, which is tasty and inexpensive. And that's because it is authentic.
Feeling adventurous? Try the durian smoothie...if you dare.
