A funky neighborhood café named after a beloved dead dog could, on the face of it, seem like the overly-earnest attempt of someone to work through the grief process. But the reality is that Barnaby met his maker a long time ago and his namesakes are lively, upbeat diners where inspired variations on comfort food (like meatloaf, buffalo burgers and smoked chicken tostadas) meet friendly service. This location, close to River Oaks, has a cheerful patio, brick accents and an airy dining room to make it more yuppie-friendly.
This Barnaby's parking lot isn't so big, so be prepared to find a spot on the street and walk a block or two.
