Trinity Episcopal Church
Founded in 1893, Trinity Church is a commanding neo-Gothic structure in Midtown that houses a beautifully restored 1918 Pilcher pipe organ as well as world-class stained glass, artwork and liturgical furnishings. Past members include Walter Cronkite and Dr. Denton Cooley and today members are dedicated to outreach programs including providing meals for the homeless and hosting an annual Jazz Fest featuring local and national artists that fills the pews with an eclectic mix of music-lovers.
Trinity’s annual Animal Blessing is a big event with a band, hot dogs and beer. Everyone from Houston police on horseback to kids with cages of parrots, ferrets and rabbits attends to have their buddies blessed by the rector. It's located by the Metro rail, making it easy for folks to hop aboard after church services. Of course, there are lots of Sunday brunch spots in Midtown with delicious cocktails . . . always a plus for the Trinity crowd, self-described as “whiskey-palians!”
