Artistic communities across all seven continents know about FotoFest, a nonprofit photographic arts and education organization based in Houston that created the first international Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art in the United States. Since 1986, master photographers, emerging artists, cutting edge art lovers and media from around the world have descended upon Houston every two years to view a vast and carefully chosen selection of art at the Biennial that combines museum-quality photography with important social and aesthetic issues. The exhibitions are spread throughout different venues across Houston and result in a massive art-crawl that takes people to some of the most fascinating scenes in town; both funky and grand. In addition, FotoFest has several other programs that include exhibitions, conferences, multi-media installations, international exchange programs and provocative film and video festivals. FotoFest’s headquarters in a restored warehouse north of downtown also hosts exhibits year-round.
