White Linen Night in the Heights 2012
Grab your favorite white clothing — it's time to get to know the art, culture and community of The Heights. This year's theme, "Local Faces, Local Flavor, Local Fun," will shine the spotlight on artists, musicians and businesses that thrive in the eclectic neighborhood.
Where to be that evening? The fun begins along 19th Street where the Fiesta stage at 226 Recordings (226 W. 19th St.) will kick off the music for the evening starting with Cavernous, TheTyburn Jig, Poor Pilate and headliner Runaway Sun. Local favorite Lords of Kool will play further down the street on the Jubilee stage.
Fashionistas will flock to the WLN Fashion Show hosted by Ch. 13's Sonia Azaad, featuring wearables from Jubilee, Replay on 19th, Langford Market, Casa Ramirez and more. The First Saturday Art Market will be on the street end capping the festivities. Local artist Edgar Medina will have a "Pop-Up" Gallery at Langford Market.
White Oak will also be a hub for WLN frolicking. Fresh Arts will host an Arts Pavilion in the White Oak parking pavilion at 2904 White Oak. Partiers will be entertained with performances by Mercury, Suchu Dance Company, Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company and Kiki's Sordid Sideshow burlesque clown performance.
Heights Beatniks (709 E. 11th St.) will be the headquarters for the Bombay Sapphire Lounge. The retailer will also host a fashion show at 7:30 p.m. with clothing from Beatniks, La Camella and Hello-Lucky.
Once again, White Linen Night will partner with multiple pink charities to promote breast cancer awareness as well as survivor services available in Houston.
The rest of the activities are scattered across the Heights area and center around the 19th Street Shopping District, 11th Street, White Oak, Heights Boulevard, Yale Street, Studewood Street and Houston Avenue. Free shuttle service is provided.
