Brazil's Deborah Colker is a force unto herself. Her choreography is amazingly musical, yet sensual, thrilling and cathartic. Whether the dancers are impossibly balanced on a giant wall or slithering among fragile vases, their danger is theatrical, but the audience's rush is palpable.
The first Brazilian to win London's prestigious Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance, the internationally acclaimed choreographer uses modern dance to challenge notions of space and gravity and redefine the rules for what can and can't be done. Companhia de Danca Deborah Colker makes its Houston debut performing the award-winning Mix, a seven-movement work that features her dynamic choreography and a stage-wide climbing wall. A similar wall structure can also be seen in Cirque du Soleil's Ovo, which was created, directed and choreographed by Colker in 2009.
