Musiqa presents premieres of six alternative soundtracks based on selected scenes from iconic films, such as the classic 1922 German expressionist horror film Nosferatu. The new scores, created by student composers from the music departments of Rice University and the University of Houston, will transform how familiar films are viewed.
The program features the works by: Charles Halka, Kenya Gillespie and Ben Krause from Rice University, and Samuel Hunter, Desmond Ikegwuonu and Daniel Webbon from the University of Houston. Featured performers are clarinetist Jennifer Dawson and percussionist Robert Garza.
"Alternate Tracks" is produced in conjunction with the CAMH's exhibition, Perspectives 178: CINEPLEX, a celebration of the expansive nature of moving image media and the power of montage.
