Matchbox Gallery opening reception: Rokk: Field Notes by McKenna Mitchell
Rokk: Field Notes is the first gallery installation of McKenna Mitchell's landscape photography. The images are the product of a three-week field study of Iceland. Over the course of this expedition, geologic formations and processes were identified and captured using a range of techniques, including macro and aerial photography. This fieldwork and the resulting exhibit are experiments in scientific visualization in which geology concepts are communicated through a pastiche of landscape photography and scientific diagrams.
By unifying photography and geology, Rokk: Field Notes argues that artists and scientists alike are moved to perform their work by beauty.
Matchbox Gallery is located in Sewell Hall at Rice University.
