Jerry & Marvy Finger Lecture: "HPD Progress Through the Years: The Department Then and Now" by Tom Kennedy
|
The Houston Police Force was established by the naming of a city marshal in January 1841. Houston Police Department historian Denny Hair wrote, "As befitted a frontier community, the meeting of justice in Houston was swift and uncompromising." Eventually, conditions changed and law enforcement became more sophisticated. The Bayou City population went from 44,633 in 1900 to almost one million by 1960.
Tom Kennedy will cover the history of HPD from1841 to the present, including a description of President Kennedy's meeting with HPD officers.
If you would like to reserve a box lunch for this lecture, please contact Elizabeth Martin by 11 a.m. on July 18 by calling 713-655-1912.
