Houston Friends of Chamber Music presents the Ebène Quartet with guest artists in a versatile concert filled with jazz improvisations, film and pop music and a favorite classical piece.
One of the most creative ensembles on the international chamber music scene today, the Ebène Quartet applies passionate intensity to all types of music. While the group's name means ebony, reflecting what their violinist Gabriel Le Magadure calls "a love and respect for great African American jazz musicians," it has become one of the top classical string quartets worldwide.
"Fiction" is an eclectic mix of pieces ranging from The Beatles' "Come Together" to Miles Davis' "Nothing Personal," including theme songs from American films like Pulp Fiction or Streets of Philadelphia, all of them arranged by the quartet. The ensemble will perform a 60-minute concert with pieces from its Fiction album, recorded in tandem with drummer Richard Héry and sound engineer Fabrice Planchat, and, true to their taste for versatility, the program will conclude with one of the quartet's favorite classical pieces.
