Join Bayou Bend Sundays in January and February as the historic house museum offers an interactive, taste bud-friendly look at the history of several popular American beverages. Over four weeks, participants will learn the history of coffee, tea, distilled spirits and hot chocolate in American foodways, and will also take part in various tastings.
Guest speakers include University of Houston professor and mixology expert Aaron Corsi; Nick Castelberg, chef and head of Foodways at the George Ranch in Sugar Land; and Lee Garcia, editor-in-chief of Tea in Texas Magazine.
The fourth week includes a tasting by Chocolat du Monde and a mansion tour to see Bayou Bend's antique drinking accessories.
This series is inspired by the fall Bayou Bend/Rienzi History Book Group selection A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage, which can be enjoyed at the Kitty King Powell library.
