Da Camera presents the Romeros Guitar Quartet
Da Camera's 2014-15 season celebrates "Inventors and Explorers," outstanding creative figures who changed the course of history in music, science and visual art. The season continues with The Romeros, widely credited as the inventors of the classical guitar quartet. Known to millions as "The Royal Family of the Guitar," the Romeros invented the guitar quartet half a century ago.
Founded by the legendary Celedonio Romero with his sons Celin, Pepe and Angel in 1960, the quartet today consists of the second (Celin and Pepe) and third generations (Lito and Celino) of the Romero family. To have so many virtuosi of the same instrument in one family is rare in the world of musical performance, and in the realm of the classical guitar it is absolutely without precedent.
The program includes works of Vivaldi, Boccherini, de Falla, Villa Lobos, Albeniz and Celedonio Romero.
