Set in Manhattan's far East Village, Avenue Q targets the almost-grown-up Sesame Street generation with wry life lessons for young adults. Many characters are puppets. among them a closeted gay yuppie, a hooker, Trekkie Monster, even Gary Coleman as an apartment building janitor.
In a jocular, mock-educational way it touches in song upon such adult-urban topics as racism, homophobia, joblessness and Internet sex addiction.
Produced in association with SRO Productions and directed by Vance Johnson with musical direction by Tina King, the cast features Tyler Galindo, Laura Botkin, Ryan Smith, James Smith, Alex Lambert, Christine Weems, Sam Martinez, Miatta Lebile, Kalin Coates, Cortney Jacobs, Alejandro Martinez, Jacob Kirschoff and Jennifer Agbu, with original puppet design by Phil Nichols of Facades FX.
