Best known for his work with Cecil Taylor, Derek Bailey and the ICP Orchestra, Tristan Honsinger is one of the most expressive and original cellists in the world of improvised music, possessing a flair for theatrical gestures and slapstick humor. Based in Amsterdam since the late 1970s, the conservatory-trained Honsinger is a true virtuoso on his instrument.
His repertoire includes classical motifs, jazz techniques, violently percussive attacks and hints of gypsy folk music. He is apt to pepper his performances with wordless vocalizations inspired by his interests in opera and theater.
For this performance, Honsinger will perform a solo set, after which he'll be joined by a group of fine local improvising musicians and actors, including distinguished alumni of Nameless Sound's creative music education program.
