Modern and Contemporary Masterworks from Malba - Fundación Costantini is an exclusive loan exhibition of masterworks from one of the most important arts and cultural institutions in Latin America. Paintings by some of the region's best-known artists — including Frida Kahlo, Wifredo Lam and Diego Rivera — travel to Houston for the first time, along with the work of landmark artists new to U.S. audiences.
This eye-opening exhibition brings to North America works by many key avant-garde Latin American artists who pioneered modern art in their own countries or participated in the principle European movements. Visitors are invited to discover and explore masterworks by Argentina's Antonio Berni and Xul Solar; Brazilian artists Tarsila do Amaral and Cândido Portinari; Chile's Roberto Matta; Mexico's Miguel Covarrubias; and Uruguay's Joaquín Torres-García, among others.
On view through August 5.
