14 Pews presents Music of Strangers
Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom) profiles celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, which brings together master musicians from around the world to teach, collaborate, and perform.
What is the role of music? That question is at the heart of the Silk Road Ensemble, a group of master musicians from around the world brought together by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma to perform, teach, and brainstorm. In The Music of Strangers, Academy Award- winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (Keith Richards: Under the Influence, also screening at this year's Festival) takes the audience on a global journey with Ma and the Ensemble that will open people's eyes and attune everyone's ears.
Full of transcendent music — including Ma's performance of a solo Bach piece in the Toronto Music Garden, a space that he co-created — The Music of Strangers will leave the audience with a new-found appreciation for the stunning variety of our world's musical traditions, and an appetite to hear more.
